Guitar For Beginners – Tuning

Posted by Maurice Rattray Comments off

No matter how good you are on a guitar, if your instrument is out of tune, you will sound bad. It is therefore very important to learn this essential skill. I think that every guitarist should know how to tune his instrument. It’s just part of being a guitarist. In this article we’ll try to explain why tuning is important and how do you do it.

We already answered the importance part. The number one reason why you should learn how to tune your guitar is to get a decent sound out of it. Trust me – you don’t want to play an out of tune instrument. It’s absolutely no fun.

Guitar should be tuned quite regularly. It’s actually a great habit to do it before every playing session. This is the reason why you should learn this skill yourself, so that you don’t depend on others.

To a beginner it may seem as a difficult thing to learn and I won’t lie to you – it’s not easy, you won’t learn it overnight. But it’s not rocket science either. You just need a little practice, that’s all. As with any skill, the more you do it, the better you are.

So how do you tune an acoustic guitar? First, you must identify the strings. Then you readjust the pitch of the strings so that they produce the correct notes. You do this by tightening or loosening the tuning peg on the head of the guitar. Usually a reference note is needed. This may be a string that is in tune or a note from another instrument.

Also remember that sometimes a string can be so worn out that it simply can not be tuned properly, no matter how hard you try. In this case you should replace a string.

There is one thing you can be sure of – your guitar is going to get regularly out of tune. The best thing to do is to learn how to fix this.

Singing Voice Trainer – Find A Good One Right Now!

Posted by Jamie Drake Comments off

Exactly like in everything else, choosing the best singing teacher can either make or break your singing career or hopes. So it is of great signification that you hire good singing coach for your vocal lessons.

These are some vital tips for all singing students, so that you will be ready to make the most out of your singing lessons, and be able to improve quickly in your singing and vocal technique:

1. There Are No Quick Fixes. If you were hoping I would say that a good teacher could change your voice overnight then I have to say sorry and tell you that I won\’t be the man to try and sell you that sort of BS. If you stop to think about it for a second it is sensible. Singing is an ability, and skills take a little time to develop. Oftentimes when you begin to sing the right way you will sound worse than previously. But that is only because you want to re-train your muscles properly before you can start singing the way you have always wished to.

2. Teaching Your Voice. It is important the singing voice coach is teaching you and not just attempting to get you to sound like a copy of somebody else. I think this is a horror that plenty of folks have. Rest assured, a good teacher will teach you how to make your voice sound the best that it can. Only a bad coach would try and change your voice to fit into his program. Good teachers work with the built-in abilities of their students and adapt their teaching methods accordingly.

3. Singing With Your Entire Body. A good teacher will know that singing is an athletic activity. Training and conditioning all the muscles in your body used for singing properly is exceedingly important. It’s the foundation that your singing will be built on. So find someone that knows all about coaching the pelvic floor. Yes, that is where your power comes from.

Enjoy The Learning Process

One great thing about singing is that it is fun and enjoyable even during correct lessons, and we would certainly be ready to enjoy the training process that we must go through in order to get a better singing voice! When we accept the long learning process, we may certainly be more relaxed during our lessons and be able to improve our voice even more! It is a upright cycle that singing scholars will be ready to benefit from with the correct mindset and attitude.

Get A Clue: Becoming The Next Best Singer

Posted by Corey Wilson Comments off

First if you want to become one of the greatest artist of all times you have got to,”get a clue.” What I mean by that is that you have to go out there and do your research, kind of like what you are doing now. You are reading this article because you want more information. My philosophy has always been if you ever want to be the best at anything you have got to be equal to if not better than those who are already out there doing what it is you are trying to accomplish.

Now, how do you do that? I’m glad you asked. You have got to know what kind of singers are there out there. For example; a mainstream performing artist, or an underground independent artist. With both mainstream, and underground you need some basic essentials to get you started.

Some of these basic things you will find are common sense, but still some people need to understand you can’t get anywhere without them. For example; vocal training (regardless of your skill level), you need to study the business, take songwriting classes, get a manager, get a lawyer, start recording, and shop your music.

Now, with mainstream after you take those basic step its out of your hands. It’s all up to the major labels if they want you or not. For an underground artist its a little different. After you get your lawyer to copyright all your finished work, all you need to do is make duplicate copies, and distribute them. You can distribute it to mom and pop stores, or directly to your customers. You can also sell them at the shows your manager has set up for you.

Throughout everything you go through on your journey remember one thing,”don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t make it”. Use people’s negative comments as motivation to drive you to the next level. Also always critique yourself, you can even have listening parties to get feedback on how you are progressing. Remember this is a journey and if you are at ground level there will always be people that will try to put you down, but if you stay focused how can you lose. “I may not climb the whole mountain but I’ll die with dirt under my fingernails.”– T.D. Overcoming Stage Fright

Posted by admin Comments off

So you think you’re ready.  Performance is fine-tuned, your costume or wardrobe for the event is ready, and you couldn’t possibly be feeling any more confident.  Then it hits.  It doesn’t matter if it’s a week, day, or hour before the performance; the dreaded stage fright rears its ugly head.  Most, if not all, of the greats admit to experiencing varying degrees of stage fright continuing through their entire careers.  If they can get past it so can you.  The good news is there are methods to combat its effects and even use it enhance your performance.

Not that you don’t already know, but let’s take a look at the symptoms of stage fright.  Many people experience dry mouth, racing heartbeat, and possibly a combination of cold, sweaty, and shaky hands.  Sounds incredibly pleasant doesn’t it?  Other physical symptoms include nausea and trembling lips.  Some performers have reported feelings of disconnection and faintness as well.  With such strong symptoms it doesn’t seem possible that stage fright can be controlled, but fortunately, it can.

One of the best ways to head off stage fright before it starts is to be prepared.  Make sure you know your lines, the music to the song, or whatever material you need to know for your performance.  Practice hard and stay focused during rehearsal times.  The better you know your material, the more confident you will feel performing it.  It is also a good idea to set aside time for just relaxing.  Reading, listening to music, or participating in your favorite sport or exercise is a good way to unwind.

Shortly before the performance there are some techniques you can use to keep stage fright at bay.  Get to the venue early.  This way you can become acquainted with your surroundings and double-check your equipment and wardrobe.  Eliminating the potential for an unpleasant surprise will go a long way in steadying your nerves.  Before the performance take the time to go for a short walk and be sure to stay hydrated.  Don’t drink so much water that mid-performance you are performing the pee pee dance; just enough to head off the effects of dry mouth.

Many people experience the worst stage fright right before the curtain rises.  Depending on what kind of performance you are giving depends on the right strategies for you.  It can soothing to the nerves to find the friendliest face in the audience and concentrate on that while you deliver your opening lines or sing the first few bars.  Making eye contact helps to remove that feeling of being completely alone up there.  Human interaction always helps with stage fright.  Remember the hardest part is beginning, after that it’s just cake.

Believe it or not stage fright can actually be beneficial to the performer and performance.  It helps to ensure that the routine is well rehearsed and the performer is ready.  Use stage fright to your advantage.  Take a deep breath, put on your best smile, and walk onto the stage as if you own it.  If you believe it, the audience will too.

What You Need to Know to Become a Singer

Posted by admin Comments off

You love singing and know that you are destined to become a singer. You admire popular artists and wish your music could also be recognized. This has been a dream of yours since you can remember. Well, the good news is that you can achieve your dreams. All it takes is some hard work, goal setting, and a little luck.

Here is some information that will help you learn what you need to know to become a singer.

Develop your Voice. Without excellent vocal skills, your career will not amount to much. Practice as much as you can and work with a vocal coach. You will need to find a coach who understands your musical style and your goals and will also push you and challenge you. The goal is to turn you into not only a technical artist, but help you develop your potential.

Your Personal Style. When working with your vocal coach and practicing your voice, some attention should be paid to developing your personal style. If your goal is to sing jazz, learn technical jazz style singing but also learn to put your own special mark on the songs.

Write Some Music. Another essential step is to write some music, or have someone else write it for you if you don’t have a particular talent for it. You can also work with someone who will help you get your ideas down and set them to music. Your goal is to write or help develop a collection of songs to perform and record.

Learn to Perform. Another essential step is to learn how to perform. When recording in the studio, you can easily cover up any flaws in your voice or in the music. If you mess up, you can start again. It takes a truly great singer to wow the audience while playing live. Resist the urge to lip synch. Though an astonishing number of performers do this, it is very hard to gain respect as an artist if you do this.

Get Even More Experience. Besides performing your own songs, it might be a great experience to join a chorale group, choir, or other singing ensemble to get more experience. A benefit to this is that you can learn how to interact with other singers and learn new songs and different techniques.

Record your Music. When you feel confident that you have mastered your songs, it is time to find a studio and some musicians to record your music. Depending on your goals, you can either put together a CD and sell it yourself or use this studio time to create a demo. Find someone to work with who understands your genre and has a track record for success.

Enter Contests. Entering contests and competitions is another great way to get exposure. These contests can really draw attention to your talent, especially if the contest is fairly big. Check your local area, any nearby cities, and watch for other events that may be televised. Agents and other industry professionals may lurk at these events, looking for the newest talent.

Don’t Give Up. Unless you are extremely lucky from the beginning, you will probably face rejection from time to time. You may not win every contest you enter. In fact, you may not win any. Your demo may get lost in the mail or you won’t get any responses. Don’t give up. Success could be just around the corner and you won’t know this if you don’t stop trying.

Learn Other Skills. Depending on what style of singing you want to do, you may need to learn other skills. Pop singers need to learn how to dance. Folk singers should learn how to play the guitar. You may also want to learn the piano or electric guitar. Spend time working on these things without neglecting your voice- your true goal.

Find an Agent or Manager. It may also be worth your while to find an agent or a manager. They can help you get gigs, submit your demo to producers, and in general represent you. This can be very helpful because a lot of managers and agents have industry contacts. Just be careful to choose one that is sincere about their interest in you.
